With these few days on MC... I finally managed to watch "Da Chang Jin" also known as "Dae Jang Geum" on SCV... Wah! I just can't take it.... It's very nice and the show is going TOO slow! I mean 1 episode a day? AND no show on Sat and Sun... It is a torture... SO tempted to buy the show... arhhh... So expensive! Anyone out there have the show and is able to lend me?? kekee....
The show fire my interests in Korean History again.... read up quite a lot on it these few days.... and I found out that there is historical records on Jang Geum aka Chang Jin... Dae Jang Geum was a real person recorded in the Annals of Joseon Dynasty!!! She was the first female royal physician in Korean history and she attended to King Jungjong.... Ohhhhhhh.... she has got an honor to be the only royal physician in attendance on the king, and she is heading the palace medical group, the nation's top post in this area.
I also find out the Ranking System of the Court Ladies.... very interesting.... Basically, government offices are divided into nine grades, and this simple chart would help explain it: 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b (A and B being Jung and Jong in Korean). Grade 1a is the highest, and grade 9b the lowest.

According to Dae Jang Geum, high palace ladies (sanggung) are at 5a. It was not possible for women to get past that, except for the royalty or consorts of the king. For those who wish to find out more, feel free to ask me!
Few of my favourite quotes
"Become the Highest Kitchen Lady of the Royal Palace, Jang-geum, and write down my grievances in the secret document that's passed down ... But it is your choice to make. If you don't want to be a court lady, or you don't become the Highest Kitchen Lady, you must not read [my letter], or show or tell others about it." -- Jang-geum's mother to Jang-geum
"As the one who prepares the food holds her own conviction and principles, the one who eats the food should also have the same principles, should he not? The one who prepares the food only wished to protect my health, but I indulged myself in whatever I wanted to eat. I have neglected my own body. How could I be eating food that was harmful to my body? I realized now that the one who eats the food has principles to abide by as well. In addition, the food you presented used the same seasonings, thus tasting like wild vegetables, flat and tasteless. But the more I tasted it, the more tasty it felt ... it was delicious ... This was a taste I had not experienced before. Though Joseon is a small country with few territories and people, your heart's capacity is even greater than the vast territories of our empire." --Ming Chinese envoy to Jang-geum
"When I make food, I always hope the person who eats it would have a smile on his or her face." --Jang-geum to Min Jung-ho
